Trace almost any houseplant problem back far enough and you arrive at the same place. The leggy stretching, the leaves that get smaller each time, the variegation fading to plain green, the plant that has not grown in a year, and a good share of the overwatering deaths — they are light problems wearing other costumes.
The reason light causes so much trouble is not that it is complicated. It is that human eyes are spectacularly bad at judging it.
